David Axelrod on the Stimulus Package

February 15th, 2009

I watched the news programs today as I do on many Sunday mornings.   David Axelrod, a senior advisor for President Obama was a featured guest on one of the programs.

I became troubled and somewhat worried when I heard Axelrod talking about the economy and the recently passed stimulus package.    Redux from MSNBC:

“He says he expects the rise of unemployment to be slowed by the bill’s passage and implementation.”

Axelrod claims the effects of the stimulus package will be seen soon.   While I appreciate his optimism, the truth is that David Axelrod has no more insight into the economic situation than you and I.   To support this fact, I quickly did some research on him.    He was a political science major, then a journalist turned political consultant.   I couldn’t find the word economist anywhere in his credentials.

Brace yourself for the true reality.   Don’t believe anyone who makes unfounded predictions about the effects of the stimulus package on the economy.    We can be hopeful that the stimulus package will work for the future of our country but don’t have unrealistic expectations.

Serious Photoshop Talent

February 14th, 2009

This article popped up on MSNBC and I am amazed at the results of these two artists.

“It’s the photos of the couple together that have enchanted a growing number of soft-hearted saps across the Internet because Rosie, 18, and Aaron, 24, are almost never in the same room when the photos are taken. They’re not even in the same country. Rosie lives in Buxton, England, and Aaron in Chapel Hill, N.C.”

Two separate images merged into one done with impeccable attention to detail.

Here is the link to their website.

The Demise of Starbucks

February 13th, 2009

With the announcement of Starbucks selling instant coffee comes the end of an era.   While I’ll admit that I’m addicted to the over-roasted almost burnt flavor of their coffee, I have to draw the line somewhere.

Lyss and I have been talking about buying a nice coffee machine for the house.   Getting closer….

Tom McKearney showed me this earlier today.    Its a Firefox addon that interactively writes Greasemonkey scripts to modify websites.

I’m using it to do this –>  When I navigate to CNN’s website, I don’t want to see advertisements.    Excellent!

Really – Urine injections?

My first nominee of the year for the Darwin awards goes to….

“Skeptical scientists and physicians say there is no evidence urine treatment works and that chemicals it contains could potentially be toxic.” [sic]

Maybe this is why urine comes from a excretory organ?

Geithner’s Plan – short on detail

How do we expect to trust someone with our money who basically says “Just Trust Me.” and waves their hand w/o providing details.

Mr President, you are losing my confidence more and more on a daily basis.  Adppting stimulus package prior to solving the true problems of the banking industry and falling house values will do little to help the economy.

Update: Its extremely nice to see that some Senators are awake and taking this serious.

A Tufted Titmouse in a Natural Setting

February 9th, 2009
This little bird was watching us from a branch about 20 ft above us during our hike around Lake Elkhorn in Columbia, MD.

I didn’t notice the seed in its mouth until I got home and processed the photo.

I’ve struggled to get pictures of this type of bird since they move so fast.

Max’s (Fells Point in the Cty) is having a beer festival celebrating Belgian beer this weekend.

The list of beers on their site is simply amazing.

If you are able to attend, this should be a great time.
