I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a VM in about 10 minutes or so...allocated 1 GB of memory, and 2 CPU's...it works flawlessly. I've only been playing with it for about 30 minutes or so...I definitely like it better than Linux Mint (at least the GUI).

Ben,

I too have recently made the plunge into the Linux world. I've got a VM of Linux Mint 6 (variant of Ubuntu) running within my main PC running under Vista. It could not have been easier in setting it up...but I do think that some of the software bundled is a little older than the versions you have. I may have to spin up another VM and try Ubuntu 9.04. I don't think its going to replace my laptop running XP...nor my main PC running Vista...but is something different to play around with. Linux certainly has come along way over the last couple of years...

Thanks for the kind words about Tomboy. :-)

Have you tried Monsoon and Transmission? They are both great bittorrent clients.

I don't know of any Lightroom replacements (that is one awesome app!), but F-Spot is a pretty good iPhoto replacement.

I find Mono to be a great environment for writing cross-platform apps, but there are plenty of other options like Python, too.
