The Manhattan:
3-parts Canadian or Rye Whiskey
1 part Sweet (Red) Vermouth
1 dash bitters

The Tom Collins:
1-1/2 oz Gin
1/2 oz Simple Syrup
Juice of 1/2 Lemon
Soda Water

These were the drinks, along with The Old Fashioned and the good old Whisky Sour, my folks would make at their parties when I was growing up.
I'm a Gin & Tonic guy myself.

Great write up. I have not made it to Blue17 yet and may stay clear. Everytime I get the craving for 'Mexican Food' I hit a taco truck or the Shell Station in Jessup for some Tacos de Lengua and Al Pastor, which my wife will not eat. When we are together she is only going to El Azteca in Clarksville. If you guys get a chance check them out I'd be interested to see how you think they stack up against El Salto.

Sadly, the state of Maryland misses out on another opportunity for easy tax revenue. The market will find a way -- and Marylanders will continue to pursue other back channel ways to acquire their favorite wines, spirits, etc all the while bypassing paying Maryland taxes on these products. If only there were some intelligence left in the legislative halls of Annapolis... oh wait, nevermind, this is Maryland.

The a.b.v. of the Biere de Garde is actually 6.2%, not 5.5% (that was last years recipe!)

I live in Catonsville and I really like this restaurant. The Ahi appetizer seems to be pre-prepared (the plate is refrigerator cold) but is still outstanding. Every meal my wife and I have there is always very good.

The service, as the author mentioned, may not be outstanding but is always "good". They seem to staff the place with locals (often high school girls) which is a great way to keep the place rooted in the community.

As far as BYOB is concerned, I've never been charged a corking fee for beer. I once brought a growler of DFH 90 minute that drew odd glances but not a fee for what it's worth.
